The German bred Tony Gold has been named champion of the 2026 KWPN Stallion Licensing in 's Hertogenbosch on 31 January 2026.

Westfalian colts dominated the KWPN licensing as both the champion and reserve champion are Westfalian registered.

Licensing in Numbers

A collection of 97 stallions were pre-selected in the first phase of the licensing in the December 2025 and 89 of them were entered for 's Hertogenbosch for the second phase on 30 - 31 January 2026. Amongst the no-shows were the already Hanoverian licensed Fairmont Black (by Feliciano x Zack) and F-One (by Furst Toto x Sir Donnerhall).

In the end 88 of them actually did the second phase in Den Bosch and no less than 46 of them were licensed/passed and now have to do the mandatory performance test to get their breeding permit.

The licensing committee approved much more generously compared to last year (in 2025 35 passed out of 87 presented). No less than 9 colts were named premium.

Tony Gold Named Champion

The bay Tony Gold (by Toto Jr x Apache x Don Schufro) was named champion of the licensing. He is bred by Tina Hinnemann (daughter of Johann Hinnemann) in partnership with Matthias Fieseler of Rhenania Sport horses. The latter is the sole owner of the stallion.

The Westfalian is an embryotransfer foal out of of Aweih, a state premium mare out of Olympic medal winner Weihegold over which a huge legal battle took place in 2020. Tony Gold is a half brother to Extra Gold (by Escolar), the champion of the 2021 Westfalian Stallion Licensing.

At the KWPN Select Sale, the auction following the licensing, Tony Gold became the price highlight and sold for 345,000 to Stal Brouwer and Italian investor.

"Tony Gold has a lot of pedigree, youth, and a strong, athletic body. He's exceptionally good at transitioning, moves with excellent balance and leg technique, and is also genetically very sound," said KWPN licensing committee chair Bart Bax.

Vamos Junior is Reserve Champion

The Westfalian registered Vamos Junior (by Vitalis x Hotline) was named the reserve champion. The bay is the full brother to Cathrine Dufour's 2022 World Championship team gold and silver medal winner Vamos Amigos (now owned and ridden by Annabella Pidgley).

He was acquired by Belgian millionaire entrepreneur Jan van Geet at the foal auction held during the 2023 European Championships in Riesenbeck for 32,000 euro.

Vamos Junior is bred in The Netherlands by Noortje Radsteke, who collaborated closely with Reesink Horses. Vamos Junior is one of eight full siblings to international Grand Prix horse Vamos Amigos.

"Vamos Junior combines a striking model with a very elegant way of moving, with great balance and good foreleg technique," said Bart Bax.

Nine Premiums

Nine stallions in total were named premium.

The best "performing" sire at this year's KWPN licensing was Extreme U.S., the most popular KWPN breeding stallion of 2022. He sired 416 KWPN registered foals in 2023 of which 199 were colts. Eight of those were presented in the second phase and three were licensed. One of them was named premium, Trinellowaard (by Extreme US x Florencio), bred by L van Rijn and owned by the breeder in partnership with Stal Leeuwenhof. He sold for 165,000 euro at auction.

Premium stallion Ti Sento (by Kjento x Krack C), bred by H. Wouters and owned by Coby & Marlies Van Baalen, sold for 115,000 euro.

Auction

The average price for a stallion in the auction was 54,000 euro.

"We couldn't be more proud of the result of this auction," said Head of Breeding Ralph van Venrooij. "The fact that the selection committee also succeeded in adding the champion stallion as a wildcard to the collection, and that Tony Gold subsequently lived up to all expectations, makes it extra special."

The most xpensive, non-premium stallion was Tendo (by Dante US x Vivaldi) which sold for 70,000 euro. Taygo NL (by Neil x Desperados) found a new owner for 65,000 euro, while Tamimt Tayri Taghbalt (by Osaka x Daily Diamond), owned by A Ayt Ben Moh, fetched 60,000 euro at auction. Tandango DC (by Toto Jr x Vivaldi) sold for 48,000 euro.

The most expensive, non-licensed stallion was Tzadok (by Mauro x Ferdinand), who sold for 40,000 euro. Total Romance A (by For Romance x United) sold for 38,000 euro, True Colors (by Newport x Krack C) had a hammer price of 36,000 euro. Three non-licensed colts sold for 30,000: Tiesto (by Secret x Negro), Take Two Pomona (by Fonq x For Romance), and Titanium L (by Easy Game x Rubin Royal).
