The 2022 CDI Basel, the first and only CDI competition in Europe in January of 2022, has been cancelled. The 4* event, which features a big show jumping CSI and a big tour in dressage, was supposed to take place on 13 - 16 January 2022.

The CHI Basel was supposed to take place in the St. Jakobshalle indoor exhibition center.

Star Cast

The first edition of the CDI Basel attracted a star-studded field of participants.

Olympic champion Jessica von Bredow-Werndl (Ferdinand BB), Isabell Werth (Quantaz), Dorothee Schneider (Faustus), Cathrine Dufour (Bohemian), Morgan Barbancon (Sir Donnerhall II), Victoria Max-Theurer (Abegglen), and Jose Antonio Garcia Mena (Divina Royal) would have been facing each other in Basel.

They would have been joined by Astrid Neumayer (Zap Zap), Charlotte Heering (Bufranco), Jean Philippe Siat (Lovesong), Lisa Müller (Stand by Me), Benjamin Werndl (Famoso), Aniko Losonczy (Dior ), Anna Merveldt (Esporim), Valentina Truppa (Ranieri), Tommie Visser (Genesis Begijnhoeve) and Swiss homeside heroes Carla Aeberhard (Delioh), Charlotte Lenherr (Sir Stanley W) and Estelle Wettstein (Quaterboy).

Covid Cancellation

Today, the organizers of the CHI Basel announced that the city council of the canton of Basel revoked the approval granted on 15 November 2021 for the event.

"A license could have been granted for hosting the event behind closed doors. However, because the epidemiological situation could worsen further, the organizers decided with a heavy heart to cancel the show," Basel stated. This is the second year in a row that the event has been cancelled.

""We tried everything with enormous commitment until the end," said show director Andy Kistler. "The best riders would have loved to come to Basel. Our sponsorship and hospitality offers were sold out and ticket sales were at record levels. Unfortunately, the development of the pandemic has once again put a spoke in our wheel."
